KRSD Joins National Road Safety Partnership (NRSP)
KRSD has been inducted into the National Road Safety Partnership in a workshop organised by the partnership on the 27th of May 2021 at the FRSC Headquarters Abuja.
In a welcome address by the Chairman, NRSP, Mr. Ajukwura Wokomah. He informed the gathering of the members’ decision to recognize and induct KRSD Trust Fund into the partnership for its contribution to road safety development in Nigeria. Also that the aim of the workshop is to map out plans and look at strategies that will give the partners headway to solving some of the issues of road safety that is plaguing our nation.
Corps Marshal expressed his delight at KRSD’s induction and also for the years of a fruitful partnership between the FRSC and KRSD in organising the Annual Essay Competition for Youth Corpers in Nigeria.
In response, the Founder KRSD Foundation expressed her appreciation.
She added that looking into the future, KRSD would like to add more power to victims’ assistance, advocacy, and education/ intense training of drivers of various segments of society.
She highlighted 4 areas that she feels are problems of safety on our roads.
They are:
i. Poor conditions of our roads and infrastructures. (Poorenvironment).
ii. Inadequate or non-existence of Access to Quick Response by victims of crashes. Example; ambulance.
iii. Poor education and training of drivers and the masses.
iv. Lack of adequate Trauma centers in the entire country.
Brief about NRSP
In 1999, the international federation, World Bank, and the UK’S DFID formed the Global Road Safety Partnership with its main objective to address critical Road Safety issues using globally recognised good practices, with its headquarters at the federation’s Geneva office. Further to a United Nations resolution of November 10th, 2010, representatives of the Global Road safety partnership met with the Road safety stakeholders in Lagos and Abuja in 2010 to discuss the establishment of a National Road safety partnership between the public, and private sectors, Organisations, and NGOs.
Goal: Reduction of accidents by bringing relevant partners together.
