A non-governmental organization, Kwapda’as Road Safety Demand (KRSD), on Wednesday gave a boost to the “Ember months” road safety campaign with a rally at Jabi Park, Abuja.
The event which included talks on road safety measures, also featured distribution of leaflets, T-shirts, and face caps bearing safety messages to the drivers.
Founder of KRSD, Hon Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, told the drivers that the death of her son in a road accident prompted her campaign for road safety.
This, she said, is to help many avoid the circumstances that led to the death of her son.
She advised passengers to caution reckless drivers without being confrontational.
The chairman of the minibus long journey drivers Branch 1 at the park said his union has been having series of safety campaigns, which have made them safety conscious.
In their response, the booking officer, GUO Group of Companies, Uche Udoka said, “We have laid down rules and our drivers comply. Our station managers enforce the rules. Our passengers are safe. Each bus has a driver as well as a spare driver.”
A board member of KRSD, Hajiya Amina Aliyu, warned drivers against drinking and driving or while at the motor park before they drive.
There was a walk from ABC Transport bus terminal, Utako, which ended with a talk in Hausa and Pidgin English in Utako Market.
