FRSC honours Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, PJ, JCA

The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Friday Aug. 5 honoured the founder of the Kwapda’as Road Safety Demand (KRSD), Hon Justice Monica Dongban-Mensem, PJ, JCA.

Justice Dongban-Mensem who is Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Ibadan Division, founded KRSD Trust fund on September 30th, 2011 after the death of her son, Kwapdaas Sampson Rangna’an Dongban in a road crash in Jos, Plateau State.

Since coming into being, the NGO has in partnership with FRSC done much advocacy and training in road safety.

Presenting a plaque to the awardee at the FRSC headquarters in Abuja, the Corps Marshal of FRSC, Dr Boboye Oyeyemi who was represented by Deputy Corps Marshal, AK Hassan described KRSD as a “credible and reliable NGO”.

“You’re the only individual that has such partnership with us. We know how much you’ve invested. We can’t quantify the value you’re adding to society but by our estimation, it’s running into millions of naira. We thank you for that,” the Corps Marshall stated.

The Corps Marshal who said Justice Dongban-Mensem is a household name in FRSC described the honouree as “a mother and concerned citizen, committed to a cause”.

Oyeyemi promised that this year’s annual road safety essay competition sponsored by KRSD will be made better, more successful and impactful.

On November 8, 2012, the then Corps Marshal, Chief Osita Chidoka gave the NGO cash award of N500,000 in what he termed recognition of the KRSD’s effort in propagating road safety education and consciousness.

Justice Dongban-Mensem who was excited by the records shown her in FRSC Call Room gave accolades to the organization saying FRSC has reduced road crashes and casualties in Nigeria.

She maintained that many road users are ignorant of traffic rules so road safety education be taken to very important persons like state governors.
The FRSC Call Centre works 24 hours – receiving calls from around the country and responding to emergencies.
